-
More time to plan a personal tribute without time pressure

Memorial Ideas After a Direct Cremation
A direct cremation gives families time — and freedom — to decide how best to honour their loved one. Some common memorial ideas include:
Personal Memorials
-
A gathering at home or in a favourite place
-
A Celebration of Life with photos and music
-
A quiet moment with close family
-
A memorial table at a later date
Memorial Keepsakes
-
Fingerprint jewellery
-
Ashes to Glass keepsakes
-
Memorial urns and scatter tubes
-
Memory books and framed photographs
Urns & Containers
We offer traditional, contemporary and eco-friendly urns. Ashes can also be distributed between family members. Our staff can guide you through all options.
Scattering Ashes — What You Need to Know
Ashes may be scattered in many locations with permission. Each place has different guidelines — so it is important to ask before arranging anything.
Popular Options
-
Cemeteries and crematorium gardens
-
Woodland or natural areas (with permission)
-
Private land — with written consent from the landowner
-
Rivers, lakes and waterways (some may require Environment Agency approval)
We can guide you on:
- How to request permission
- Where scattering is allowed
- Suggested local areas of beauty or significance
- Appropriate containers and scatter tubes
If preferred, ashes can also be buried with a memorial marker — or turned into a keepsake to cherish forever.
Is a Service Still Possible?
Yes — even after a direct cremation, you may choose to hold a memorial later. This could include:
-
Music, readings or prayers
-
A celebration of life event
-
A minister or celebrant-led service
-
Scattering of ashes ceremony
-
A gathering at your home or local venue
There is no time limit — the farewell can be held when you feel ready.
